Permanent, Full-time. Salary of £40,000
Wells Cathedral is looking for a dynamic Financial Controller to lead the finance department and to deliver financial and management accounting services for the Cathedral, including its two trading subsidiaries.
You will have overall responsibility for the integrity of the Cathedral’s accounting, and reporting processes, overseeing all internal financial controls and cash management and leading on the annual budget process liaising with the various managers and budget holders. You will be the main point of contact for all audit-related issues, and for developing process and procedures in line with best practice as well as for the maintenance of the accountancy system (Pegasus Opera).
You will be expected to present financial management information and reports to the senior board in a way that is meaningful and simple including the preparation of the annual accounts in line with the Cathedral Regulations which are based on Charities Statement of Recommended Practices (SORP). As an integral member of the team you will support the work of financial planning and reporting by providing a full range of services of management accounts in order to support the Cathedral’s on-going activities and development plans.
The successful applicant will be a motivated self-starter with a track record of delivering results and hitting deadlines. You will have either an ACCA or CIMA qualification along with strong post-qualification experience, which includes knowledge and understanding of accounting within a complex not-for-profit organisation (SORP experience is essential).
You will hold the ability to pick up and run systems easily, along with some experience of managing staff. You should have the ability for structured, analytical thinking whilst being willing to challenge the status quo and take an effective approach to problem solving.

Volunteer Chaplains Needed!
Do you like meeting and helping new people? Could you offer one or two days a month?
Our Duty Chaplains, Licenced Readers and ordained members of the clergy are available to Cathedral visitors for pastoral counselling or conversation. They conduct short prayers at the clock on the hour and, if ordained, celebrate Holy Communion at 12.25pm on Tuesdays.
Duties are between 10am to 4pm on a rota basis throughout the Visitor Season (currently March-October) and a lunch voucher is provided.

Matthew Owens, Organist & Master of the Choristers, is always pleased to hear from parents of prospective choristers and we are particularly looking for children in current school years 3 to 5 to start in September 2017. We will be holding pre-auditions in November and December 2016 in advance of the main auditions in January.
