Clerk of the Works (Fabric & Estate Manager)

Permanent, Full-time.  Salary of £38,500 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Wells Cathedral as Clerk of the Works where you will have responsibility for the maintenance and conservation of the fabric of the Gothic Cathedral building and the wider cathedral estate.

You will be a qualified building surveyor with a passion for working with historic buildings and conservation and has, or is willing to undertake, building conservation accreditation. You will be an experienced project manager with a good working knowledge of historic building construction, current conservation practice and a wide range of repair methods.

You will possess excellent communication skills and a creative approach to developing practical solutions. Leading a small close-knit team of in-house maintenance staff, you will be able to balance coordinating multiple projects promptly and efficiently.

Volunteer Chaplains Needed!

Do you like meeting and helping new people? Could you offer one or two days a month?

Our Duty Chaplains, Licenced Readers and ordained members of the clergy are available to Cathedral visitors for pastoral counselling or conversation.  They conduct short prayers at the clock on the hour and, if ordained, celebrate Holy Communion at 12.25pm on Tuesdays.

Duties are between 10am to 4pm on a rota basis throughout the Visitor Season (currently March-October) and a lunch voucher is provided.

Matthew Owens, Organist & Master of the Choristers, is always pleased to hear from parents of prospective choristers and we are particularly looking for children in current school years 3 to 5 to start in September 2017. We will be holding pre-auditions in November and December 2016 in advance of the main auditions in January.
