Health & Safety Coordinator

Salary: £22,000 per annum

Full-time; initial fixed-term Contract for 6 months

Wells Cathedral is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to join the Works Department as soon as possible.

Wells Cathedral is one of the great cathedrals of England, with the present building dating from the 1180’s and having been extended and modified through the centuries. Today the Cathedral remains a working ecclesiastical centre as well as being a heritage tourist attraction, to support this the organisation undertakes a diverse selection of activities across a variety of departments distributed across a large site in a range of office buildings and working environments. Organisational health & safety needs to reflect and accommodate this diversity.

Health and safety in the Cathedral is managed by the Clerk of the Works acting as Health & Safety Officer, reporting to the Cathedral Administrator (CEO). An audit of Health & Safety was conducted in 2015. Outcomes of the audit include an action plan and a framework for governance and management. Wells Cathedral now wish to appoint a Health & Safety Coordinator for a fixed-term period to enable the implementation of the action plan, also managing day to day issues as necessary.

As part of the Works Department and under the delegated authority of the Clerk of the Works, the Health & Safety Coordinator will manage health and safety in all departments and buildings of the Cathedral as a workplace and public visitor attraction, enabling delivery of improvements to safety governance and systems identified in the audit action plan and maintaining current health and safety policies and procedures in the interim.

To Apply:

Application forms should be returned to Human Resources, either by post care of Diocesan Offices, the Old Deanery, Wells, Somerset, BA5 2UG or by email to [email protected]
