YOUNG PERSONS EVENTS

During the year, numerous large events are organised for young people by the Cathedral Education Department.
These may be:

  • for school pupils, with events for a specific year group
  • for youth groups, as with the popular Annual Children's Festival for Sunday Schools, and Youth events for teenagers
  • for families, activities during school holidays.

THE ANNUAL CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL

The Festival is an annual event to welcome children from all over the Diocese to their home cathedral. Past formats have started with a rousing welcome and games in the Bishop's Palace grounds, then free time to discover the delights of the various workshops: craft, games, music, mime, dance, storytelling, a trail, and quiet time in the reflective area. The day ends with an all-together worship in the Nave. Themes have included the Trinity in a circus style event, a Beach Party with Gospel Rocky and Pilgrimage around activity bases during Epiphany.

Aimed at 5-10 year olds, the event is organised by the Cathedral's Education Department in collaboration with the Diocesan Children's Adviser.   With a finite capacity booking is essential.   The registration form is available from the Cathedral Education Officer on 01749 674483.

SIXTH FORM CONFERENCES

The Cathedral Experience Days offer 17 year olds an opportunity to debate current issues in a unique setting. Ethical and moral dilemmas concerning Relationships, War, Fair Trade, Interfaith, Cloning, and other 'Matters of Life and Death' have been frequent items on the agenda. The themes often cross curricular boundaries, not limited to Philosophy and Belief or Citizenship. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development form the background. Presentation and debating skills are refined, both in the small group discussions, and during the final plenary with 'Any Questions?'

We are fortunate in having speakers who are leading figures in each field.  For further details and a booking form, please contact the Cathedral Education Officer on 01749 674483.
