Grant-making trusts and companies

Recently grant giving trusts and other organisations gave over £6 million to the Cathedral’s now completed Development Project.

Their generous assistance has enabled the Cathedral to open its octogonal Undercroft to the public for the first time and install its first Interpretation Centre there for school children, special needs groups and the general public who wish to learn about the Cathedral’s history, art and architecture.

Grants to the Development Project also enabled the Cathedral to move its shop, restaurant and stored items from two medieval Cloisters and restore them to their former glory. Thanks to the generosity of trusts and others to the Project, the Cathedral was also able to keep pace with current legislation and innovations.

At present, grant making trusts are also contributing to the conservation of the Cathedral’s 14 th-century Jesse Window, considered by experts to be one of the best examples of medieval stained glass in Europe.
