We organise a multi-sensory tour around the cathedral, involving touching different textures and materials; hearing a variety of sounds – organ, singing, clock (and the amazing silence in a large space); smelling fragrant floral displays, incense and candles; and enjoying the visual diversity of light, colour, art, architecture, carvings, stained glass and the display at the clock. This has been enjoyed by many pupils with complex learning difficulties.
The tours are guided in very small groups by selected guides. We tailor each tour to suit the needs of the children and young adults.
The majority of craft activities (clay boss making, symbols and badge making, window collage and so forth) are suitable to be adapted for groups that would like a programmed day. Programmed days involve the use of our Education Suite. Its secure access provides a contained space that serves as a great base from which to explore the cathedral. It offers toilet facilities, cupboards for bags and coats and tables for crafts and/or lunch. Click here for more information about programmed days.
