WHO DOES WHAT

Jobs by Statute
A number of the members of the Chapter have tasks, which are dictated by the Statutes.

	The Dean is the overall senior cleric and Communar, which means he has oversight over finance. The Dean is a Crown appointment: all the other Chapter members are Bishop's appointments.
	The Chancellor has oversight for Theology and for the Library.
	The Precentor has oversight for the Cathedral Music.
	The Treasurer has oversight for the 'treasures' of the Cathedral including furniture, furnishings, bells and the Virgers.
	The Archdeacon of Wells represents the needs of the Diocese in Chapter.
	The Administrator is the senior lay person and line manager.

'Oversight' really means for the Canon to be in charge of policy and direction with the line management being through the Administrator. The Chapter works very closely together.

In addition to those matters decreed under Statute there are a number of tasks that are shared out among the Chapter.

	Prebendary Elsa van der Zee is is Keeper of the Fabric, which means she has oversight for the conservation repair and maintenance of the Cathedral Church.
	The Chancellor has oversight for the Cathedral's Ministry of Welcome to its visitors.
	The Precentor has oversight for the Liturgy and is a Foundation Governor of the Blue School.
	The Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Cathedral.
	Prebendary Helen Ball is Overseer of the Estate which covers all buildings other than the Cathedral Church.
