The
Structure
The Cathedral operates a dual oversight / line management
system. In practice it works through
 |
Heads
of Departments
and their staff.
|
 |
Volunteers
who deal with our visitors throughout the season.
These volunteers include Welcomers, the Information
Desk, Guides, Chaplains, Voluntary Virgers and
Prayer Pilgrimage Helpers and number around
250 in total.
|
 |
More
Volunteers,
who are involved in many activities not directly
associated with our visitors such as Sidesmen,
Concert Stewards, Bell Ringers, Coffee people,
Flower arrangers, Voluntary Choir, Liturgical
assistants, Embroider, Postmen, Library Helpers.
These number over 100 and offer their services
throughout the year. |
Decisions
Policy decisions are made by the Chapter and by Canons,
where they have oversight.
Executive Decisions are made by the Administrator
and by Heads of Department.
The
Process
Much of the work is done in committees and meetings.
 |
Internal
Committee / Meetings: Regular meetings
take place of the Chapter, Informal Chapter,
Staff, Heads of Departments, Music, Works Progress,
Estate, Health and Safety, Inventory, etc, where
the committee members are mainly Cathedral employees.
|
 |
External
Committees: There are also a series
of meetings where the committees are comprised
mainly of non-Cathedral employees i.e. volunteers
or independent experts. These include the Cathedral
Council, College of Canons, Fabric Advisory
Committee, Finance and Investment Advisory Committee,
the Cathedral Trust, the Preservation Trust,
the Friends Executive, the Cathedral Community
Forum and the Guild of St Andrew Forum.
