Everyone
thinks of Cathedrals as quiet cloistered places. In
fact Wells Cathedral is a very complex and busy organisation.
Everything that happens in the Cathedral and its precincts
is planned into a computerised diary system. However
the core of the Cathedral's day is its regular daily
worship and all other activities and events are secondary
to this.
The Cathedral is governed under its Constitution and
Statutes (revised April 2000) by the Chapter. Two other
bodies, the Council and the College of Canons, together
with the Chapter form the corporate body known as the
Cathedral Church of St Andrew in Wells.
In practice the Cathedral is divided up into a number
of departments - music, virgers, maintenance, accounts,
administration, visitor management, library and archives
- and two companies - restaurant and shop. |
