Entry, Tours and Highlights

We recommend that you allow enough time to enjoy the highlights of the Cathedral and medieval Vicars’ Close (see our Visit Highlights page for inspiration) and suggest an ideal visit time of between 1.5 – 3 hours, particularly if you’d like to stay for refreshments in our Cathedral café!

Make a Day of It

Our Cathedral café is a relaxing, self-service eatery boasting views to the magnificent West Front of Wells Cathedral and over the tranquil moat of the Bishop’s Palace. Our food is freshly prepared and baked by our team in the Cathedral kitchen each day – including our homemade bread! – using local Somerset and Fairtrade produce wherever possible.

Our two shops stock a vast range of products including books, cards, CDs, gifts, pictures, chocolates, Somerset Lavender, tapestries and jewellery. Our first shop is situated in the Cathedral’s new Entry Cloister; our second is located in the heart of the city in Wells Market Place.

All profits from the café and our shops go to supporting the work of the Cathedral.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Cathedral soon.
