You may find our ‘Travelling to Wells’ page useful to help plan your journey, as well as details of car parking facilities once you’re here.
Please note that the East End of the Cathedral starts to close from 4pm onwards. The Quire closes at 4pm* in readiness for Evensong (*3.45pm when we have a visiting Choir) the remainder of the East End closes at 4.30pm and the Chapter House closes at 4.55pm.
During summer opening times (April – September) all will re-open when Evensong has ended, c. 6.15pm.
Please also note that the Cathedral operates a Quiet Hour from 12.00pm-1.00pm from April to October. This restores the peace and tranquility of this holy place and serves as a reminder of its primary purpose as a place of worship. Guided tours do not take place during Quiet Hour.
Occasionally the Cathedral, or parts of it, may also need to close or only offer restricted access for a service, special event, filming or general maintenance. We try to minimise these periods as much as we can, as we know that people may travel long distances to visit us. As soon as we know about a closure it will be posted below. Please remember to check this page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may have to be arranged at short notice.
