Stained Glass

‘Among stained glass enthusiasts Wells Cathedral is famous for having the greatest collection of 14th century glass in the East End of any major church in the country.’

(The Medieval Stained Glass of Wells Cathedral, Tim Ayers, 2004).

Wells Cathedral has one of the most substantial collections of Medieval stained glass in England.  Please bring binoculars if you can for our stained glass tours, as some of the images are small and high up!

We offer three different stained glass fixed date tour themes:

1.  The Work of Angels

This tour highlights the role of angels shown in the windows through the centuries. Images include barefoot seraphim on wheels, trumpeting resurrection angels, an archangel slaying a dragon and the Annunciation.
