An international jury of music critics and others named Wells Cathedral Choir the world’s greatest choir with children in the January 2011 edition of Gramophone magazine. The cathedral’s choir came sixth out of 20 of the world’s greatest choirs as selected by an international jury whose members included Die Welt’s Music Editor Manuel Brug, The Washington Post Culture Critic Philip Kennicott and the Gramophone Russia Editor Artjom Avatinjanof.

‘Wells Cathedral Choir may be one of the oldest in the UK but they have forged a reputation for top class performances of new music, alongside their other activities,’ says Gramophone Editor James Inverne. ‘That keeps them fresh, feeds their inspiration and I suspect means that they are in the habit of exploring all texts, old and new, with the same excitement as if they were written yesterday.’
