Taste & See - Meeting for Silent Prayer

Date:
Monday 1st May

Time:
18:15 - 19:15

Description:In 2006 it was acknowledged by the Chapter that the opportunity to meet for communal silent prayer would be a valuable addition to the worshipping life of the cathedral. ‘Taste and See’, now in its eleventh year, was initiated to meet that need. The gathering takes place on the first Monday of each month in the Chapter Room (first gate on the left at the bottom of Vicars’ Close, under the Vicars’ Hall), and is open to all, whether members of the cathedral congregation or not. It may be helpful to those who would like to try this form of prayer as well as to those who already practise it. Typically there may be ten to twenty people present. The seating is in a circle and a candle is lit in the centre of the room. Starting at 6.15pm, there is a five minute introduction which may be a reading, music or an address, led by a member of the clergy or a lay person. This is followed by thirty minutes of silence, begun and ended with the ringing of a small bell. The gathering closes with a gentle recitation of an evening prayer, after which people are free to leave quietly. O taste and see how gracious the Lord is. Psalm 34
