Ecclesiastical Insurance 'Fabric of the Community' Mural Exhibition

Date:
Wednesday 1st November - Thursday 2nd November

Time:
All day

Description:Wells Cathedral has been announced as a host exhibition venue for a very exciting community art project. “The Great Community Mural” is the largest crowd-sourced art project that the UK has seen and it will be on display in the Cathedral between 25th of October and the 2nd of November. The mural is being created via an art competition run by Ecclesiastical Insurance, the largest insurer of churches and cathedrals (including Wells!) in the country. Ecclesiastical is asking congregations to submit an original piece of artwork that celebrates the role their church plays as part of the fabric of its local community. The best entries will be combined to form the mural, with the very best five printed at a larger scale, and the overall winner given pride of place at its centre. There’s a top prize of £10,000 for the winning church, with four runners up winning £2,500 each. The finished mural will be an impressive 10 metres in length and three metres high and it will be toured around UK cathedrals in the autumn of this year. The competition is supported by artist Tim Steward who will also be contributing a piece of art to the mural. Tim lives and works in Oxford and studied classical drawing techniques at Lavender Hill Studios in London. Full details about the competition can be found at www.ecclesisatical.com/churchcomp
