Festal Eucharist: Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist with Singing for World Peace
Thursday 21st September
17:15 - 18:15
Description:World Peace Day is to be celebrated at Wells Cathedral for the first time. On Thursday 21 September, as part of the One Day One Choir project (www.onedayonechoir.org), the Cathedral Choir will be joined at Evensong by singers from local choirs, including children. The One Day One Choir project is an exciting initiative which has been running since 2014, where people are encouraged to join together to sing for world peace. It is hoped that the Cathedral will continue to take part in future years, and especially in 2018 when we will mark 100 years since the end of WW1. In celebration of this special day, renowned US composer Gary Davison has written a brand new anthem entitled The Blessing of Peace especially for this service at Wells Cathedral, and will be travelling to the UK to attend the service. This special service, which will also celebrate the feast of St Matthew, will be held in the Cathedral’s Nave at 5.15pm, and the guest choirs will join the Cathedral Choir in singing the newly composed anthem by the American composer, Gary Davison, as well as the hymns. This service will be held in the Nave, is open to the public and all are welcome.
