The Archdeacon of Wells
The Archdeacon works with the diocesan bishop and members of his staff in encouraging and serving the ministry and mission of parish churches. Archdeacons have particular responsibility for clergy appointments and their ongoing support, the care of church buildings and their contents, as well as working within the diocesan structures of finance and administration.
There are over 200 parish churches in the Wells archdeaconry, many of which are listed buildings and part of our national heritage. The Archdeacon of Wells ministers with the 85 clergy and nearly 400 churchwardens in developing the diocesan mission strategy.
The Bishop of Bath and Wells recently announced that the Revd Canon Anne Gell will be our next Archdeacon of Wells and Residentiary Canon of Wells Cathedral and will be installed in May.
