To mark the Millennium three bells were cast and donated
to the Cathedral. These have been hung in the North
West Tower and two of them are operated by electric
motors which cause them to swing in an arc. One or
both bells are rung prior to services if the main
ringing peal is not being rung. The third bell, the
Angelus, is struck while stationary, again by electric
action, at twelve o’clock each day. These three new
bells were cast at the John Taylor Foundry in Loughborough
on 10th August 2000 and dedicated at Evensong on 16th
September 2000.
