The Cathedral Volunteers’ Quiz returned this November for the first since the pandemic, with quizzers’ funds supporting the Grand Organ Appeal’s ‘Adopt a Pipe‘ scheme.
The second Cathedral Volunteering Community Quiz was held on 4 November 2022 in the Wells Golf Club – an excellent, fully-accessible venue with friendly staff, very good bar prices, and delicious food.
Organised by guides Mary Harrison, Maureen Boylan, Robin Diujs and Richard Kilroy, the event attracted over 50 colleagues from across the Ministry of Welcome — the library assistants, gardeners, flower arrangers, chaplains, welcomers, guides, stewards, singers, their families and friends.
The quiz, which comprised 64 questions over eight rounds, included a challenge to identify familiar Cathedral faces from their baby photos!
A commemorative shield, kindly donated by the Friends of Wells Cathedral, was awarded to the winning team (pictured).
Other notable highlights included a fantastic lasagne, served at impressive speed, and a well-supported raffle with prizes generously donated by Morrisons, Tesco, Cook, and F. Griffiths & Sons.
The profit from the night, together with an amount raised at the first (pre-Covid) quiz night has enabled the Volunteers to sponsor a £250 organ pipe (4′) as a contribution to the Grand Organ Appeal.
The Quiz will be back next year on Friday 10 November 2023 – save the date!
