Annual Children’s Festival (2017)
‘Camels and Candles’
Thank you to all those who attended the Children’s Festival ‘Camels and Candles’ on 21st January 2017
The event is organised by Wells Cathedral in partnership with the Diocese of Bath and Wells. This year we celebrated Epiphany (and the link to Camels) and Candlemas (and the link to Candles) because the event fell between the two liturgical seasons.
The action-packed day attracted approximately 230 children and adults who took part in the following:
Worship – Epiphany celebrating the visit of the wise men from the East.
The opening worship started with a procession of The Bishop of Taunton, the Rt Revd Ruth Worsley dressed up as a camel driver leading a pantomime camel and following a star. She was accompanied by fellow wise men, the Dean of Wells, Very Revd Dr John Davies and former member of Chapter, Adrian I’Anson.
The children took part in a carousel of 6 different workshops that related to the theme.
- Circus skills in the Nave
- Crafts in the South Transept
- Music in the Chapter House
- Global workshop in Vicars Hall
- Camel workshop in the Education Room
- Star reflective workshop in the Lady Chapel
The closing worship was led by the Dean of Wells and further explored Candlemas.
