Wells Cathedral Voluntary Choir was formed in 1986 to sing services during Cathedral Choir vacations.. It is an amateur, mixed voice choir trained to sing liturgical music, although it does occasionally become involved in concerts with a more varied programme.
The choir sings about forty services a year in Wells Cathedral and also spends a week in residence providing the music in other cathedrals. A typical weekend would mean singingEvensong on the Saturday and at Eucharist, Matins and Evensong on Sunday. The choir accepts private engagements in the cathedral and outside (weddings, funerals, thanksgivings, etc.) for which a fee is charged. Being a liturgical choir there is no subscription nor music charges, but we do ask members to cover their own travel expenses. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings, usually in Vicars Hall, from 7.45 to 9.15 pm.
