Service to Commemorate 70th Anniversary of the Arrival of MV Empire Windrush

June 22nd marks the 70th anniversary of the docking of the MV Empire Windrush at the Port of Tilbury, marking the first wave of large-scale immigration from the Commonwealth to Britain. To complement a national service being held at Westminster Abbey, Wells Cathedral will also be hosting a service to commemorate this significant event on Sunday 24th June (3pm) and we’re looking to invite members of our community to take part.

Do you know anyone who could join us as guests? Were any of your family members on the boat? Would you or someone you know like to share your stories during the service?

If so, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us via We look forward to speaking with you.
