Things to Do in Wells
Wells welcomes visitors from across the globe and makes an ideal destination for a day trip or short break, not only providing an excellent base for exploring the local area but as a popular destination in its own right with much to see and do within the city itself throughout the year.
The Mendip Hills, Somerset Levels, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Kilver Court Gardens and Glastonbury Abbey and Tor are all close by, while further afield you’ll find the Somerset Coast (including Weston super Mare, Burnham on Sea and Brean), Fleet Air Arm Museum, Wookey Hole, Cheddar Gorge and many heritage properties.

The Bishop’s Palace

The Bishop’s Palace – The Bishop’s Table Café within the Palace grounds can cater for 120 covers. If you fancy something a little bit more special for a group of 40+, then why not arrange for a beautiful afternoon tea in the vaulted, medieval Undercroft. Pickwicks Café – Just a couple of hundred yards from the Coach Park in Broad Street, Pickwicks Café can seat up to 90 diners and can cater for all including, breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea, homemade cakes or call to talk about special requirements. Contact 01749 676697.
The hugely popular Market Days take place in Wells each Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year where you will find a huge selection of local produce and goods.
The city of Wells also plays host to a vast range of activities throughout the year, from regular events like the weekly market to one-off larger events such as the Wells Food Festival, Wells Art Contemporary Festival, the Wells Festival of Literature and the Wells Film Festival.
