Travelling to Wells
Wells is easily reached by both car and public transport. Situated approximately 20 miles from Bath, Bristol and Bristol International Airport, it is the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful county of Somerset.
From M5 North – take M4, M32, A37, A39
From M5 South – leave at Junction 23 and take A39
From South East – take A303, A36, A361, A371
Driving time from Bath and Bristol is approximately 40 minutes

There are several car parks within 5-10 minutes walk of the Cathedral. We advise those intending to stay in Wells for a good part of the day to use the Long Stay car parks, the locations of which have been highlighted on the printable map below, including the long stay car parking facilities at Waitrose on Whiting Way (long stay parking is on the upper floor of this car park). You may also find this website useful from Mendip District Council, which shows all the parking available in Wells including Blue Badges and this car parks one that details fees and durations of stay.
Parking for those with disabilities is available on Cathedral Green, subject to availability.
The Coach Park is located in Princes Road. Parking charges apply. Signage is plentiful from whichever direction you enter Wells.

If you have passengers who are less mobile and wish to visit the top end of the City where the Market Place, the Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and Vicars’ Close are located, a setting down point is in Sadler Street which is central to all the mentioned attractions. Signs to the setting down point are also plentiful from whichever direction you enter the City. Note that the setting down point is time limited and only for setting down and picking up. After dropping off please follow the signs to the Coach Park.

If a meet and greet team are not in attendance as you enter the City, information for your visit can be gained from the Information Centre, which is located on the Cathedral Green, within the Museum.

The nearest train station to Wells is Castle Cary from which there are direct services to London Paddington and the West Country. This is located approximately 13 miles from Wells with a journey time of just over 25 minutes. Taxis are available at Castle Cary train station.
Other regular train services to and from London (Paddington/Waterloo) and the West Country operate from Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa and Templecombe stations. Connecting bus services from Bristol Temple Meads and Bath Spa stations to Wells are frequent.
Regular bus services to and from Wells operate from Bath (No. 173), Bristol (No. 376) and, more locally, Shepton Mallet (Nos 161/174).
Bristol International Airport is situated just over 20 miles from Wells.
