“Blessed are the Peacemakers”
A special service to commemorate 100 years since the end of WWI
On Saturday 24 February a special Evensong service will take place in the Nave to commemorate 100 years since the end of WW1. The German Choir of London will be joining the Cathedral Choir to sing specially selected pieces of music to celebrate this point in history and peace.
This service is part of a project called “Blessed are the Peacemakers”, under which The German Choir of London are travelling to several Cathedrals in the UK (including Coventry, Norwich, Liverpool, St Paul’s, and York Minster)as well as Belgium (Brussels Cathedral and Ypres Menin Gate), and France (Notre Dame Paris) to sing in such services.
The focus of the project is to commemorate the people who tried to stop the war, rather than the people who fought it. Whilst it is without question important to commemorate the millions of people who died in the war, this project is focused on those who fought the war itself, and often died for that too. It is also acknowledging the people and organisations who fight against wars today.
Please join us for this very special service, which will begin at 5.15pm
The German Choir of London is made up mainly of German Expats living in London, and is thought to be the largest ex-pat choir in the UK.
