Choral Evensong with Celebration of Lay Ministry
Sunday 16th September
15:00 - 16:30
Description: At Evensong on 16th September we are celebrating lay ministries. Right across the diocese, lay people exercise a wide variety of ministries in their churches, work places and communities, as they put their faith into practice, living and telling the story. At this service we are particularly recognising those who have completed the five diocesan courses during the year. Lay Worship Assistants help lead worship; while Lay Pastoral Assistants and Lay Chaplains, represent the church through pastoral care and a listening ear. Alongside those specifically commissioned roles, we recognise those who have chosen to deepen their understanding of their faith through the Exploring Christianity course and those people who have trained to offer spiritual accompaniment through the Exploring Spirituality course. There will be an opportunity during the service for everyone to dedicate themselves to their particular ministries. Before and after the service, in the cloisters, there is the chance to find out more about particular ministries and courses that are available. Throughout the afternoon a prayer labyrinth will be on the front lawn at the West Front of the Cathedral. Choral Evensong is held in the Quire of Wells Cathedral and is sung by Wells Cathedral Choir during term time. This is open to the public and all are welcome.
