Cathedral Eucharist sung by The Parish Church Choir of St Mary the Virgin, Ewell
Sunday 6th January
09:45 - 11:00
Description:A service of Sung Eucharist held in the Nave of Wells Cathedral. In term time this is sung by the Wells Cathedral Choir. All welcome. St Mary’s Parish Choir has a long tradition of providing first rate music for the services. Indeed, St Mary’s is one of the few remaining village choirs in England still to sing Choral Mattins regularly as well as the more usual services of Eucharist and Choral Evensong. Over the years, the choir has paid regular visits to Chichester Cathedral to sing the services there as well as many other Cathedrals including Canterbury, Guildford, Portsmouth, Winchester, St. Albans, plus St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. We are due to sing at Portsmouth in May and Liverpool at the end of the summer holidays. Andrew Millington, then of Guildford Cathedral, composed his ‘Missa alme pater‘ to commission for Ewell’s 150th anniversary celebrations for the current church building. The church is lucky to have a second choir as well and the Singers cover the monthly baptism service and when the Parish Choir is on holiday. Wells Cathedral Assistant Organist, Jeremy Cole, was the Church’s Organ Scholar before University. One of our other recent Organ Scholars is at Westminster Cathedral, and another has just left Liverpool to take up a major position in the USA.
