"Religious Diversity, Islam and Extremism": Interfaith Seminar with Douglas Pratt

Description:This programme of two 75 minute sessions will • explore the ways in which Christians understand religious diversity and respond to it • examine two related and vexed issues of our time: Islamic extremism, and fear of Muslims (Islamophobia). Each session will comprise a talk of 30-40 minutes, followed by discussion and questions. Douglas Pratt recently retired as Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Waikato, New Zealand. He is an Anglican priest, Canon Theologian (emeritus), and Honorary Professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Bern, Switzerland. Professor Pratt’s most recent books include Fear of Muslims? International Perspectives on Islamophobia (2016), Christian Engagement with Islam: Ecumenical Journeys since 1910 (2017) and Religion and Extremism: Rejecting Diversity (Bloomsbury, 2018).
