Evensong sung by Sweelinck Chamber Choir, Amsterdam

Monday 21st October

17:15 - 18:15

Choral Evensong is held in the Quire of Wells Cathedral and is sung by the Wells Cathedral Choir during term time. This is open to the public and all are welcome. The Sweelinck chamber choir consists of two separate vocal ensembles that work together on larger projects with 27 voices both in concerts and church services. In 2012 they were choir in residence at Peterborough Cathedral, a contribution which was received very well. During that same tour they gave a concert in Burleigh House in Stamford. As a speciality they bring - next to the required English repertoire - work by Dutch composers like Sweelinck (hence the name), Andriessen, Strategier etc. In the yearly WW2 remembrance in Hofkerk Amsterdam they worked together with musicians of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. Leader of the choir is Christiaan Winter, former director of music of the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, now city carillonneur of Alkmaar, teacher on the Dutch Carillon School and working on a PhD thesis
