Cathedral Eucharist sung by The Rawstorne Singers

This service is held in the Nave of Wells Cathedral and is sung by The Rawstorne Singers. All are welcome to attend.

  • Seating will be socially distanced as part of the Cathedral's continuing wish to help visitors and those attending services or events to feel safe. (see the Public Services page for more information)
  • Face masks are advised but are not mandatory
  • The Cathedral continues to ask all visitors and those attending services to scan the track and trace QR code, or to complete a track and trace form. 

The Rawstorne Singers, based in Leyland, Lancashire, was originallyformed in 1980 as a visiting and training choir for the pupils of BishopRawstorne High School in Croston by Michael Sands, the then Director of Musicat the School. Michael retired as conductor of the choir in the summer of 2019,when Marc Murray was appointed as conductor. Many of the present members joinedwhen they were students at the school, although the choir separated from theschool some twenty years ago. In addition to singing services at a number ofAbbeys and Minsters and performance of many concerts, both religious andsecular, in and around the Preston area, the Choir has undertaken a civic rolefor the City of Preston - singing for Mayoral Services, Christmas CharityEvents, annual carol concerts for the Lancashire Evening Post, and for theCampaign for the Protection of Rural England. The Choir still undertakes anumber of weekend singing visits - all over the UK - and the summer visits(usually a week to ten days, taking over the duties of a Cathedral choir, havenow reached number 35. Having now sung in all six of the Welsh Cathedrals and44 in England and in two in Ireland.

Friday 17th & Saturday 18th Sept: The Cathedral will close at the earlier time of 6pm in preparation for the Jess Gillam concerts. Tickets will be available on the door from 6.45pm for just £15 (cash only)
