Coventry Cathedral Choir consists of two separate choirs of boys and girls as well as a mixed back row of Choral Scholars, Choral Clerks, and Lay Clerks. The Choir sings all of the main choral services at Coventry Cathedral as well as concerts, tours, and recordings. The boys begin at the age of 7 or 8 and continue until they turn 14, and the girls go all the way until they finish school at 18. The Choir sings repertoire that spans from the medieval period right up to the present day. The Choir commissioned Matthew Martin to write a Missa brevis as part of the Cathedral’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2022. Recently, the Choir sang the Christmas morning Eucharist live on BBC One and performed for King Charles III when he visited the Cathedral as Prince of Wales in 2021. During the Coventry City of Culture year 2022, the Choir undertook performances of Nitin Sawney’s specially composed Ghosts in the Ruins and this was broadcast on BBC Four.
