Friday 30th August
17:15 - 18:00
The Royston Priory Singers were formed in 2000 with Richard Prince as the musical director. Many of the singers had been involved with the choir at Royston Parish Church where he was organist and choir master until that year. Since then, the choir has sung at many Cathedrals in the UK from as far west as St David’s in Wales, to Truro in the south-west, and Durham in the north of England. For many years, a ‘summer week’ was a regular part of the yearly diary as well as weekend and day bookings. The choir has a regular number of local singers, and also has a number of singers from further afield who come and sing. Since Covid, the Priory Singers have sung in Bury St Edmunds, Peterborough, Rochester, Norwich, and in many churches local to Royston in Hertfordshire. In addition to singing in Cathedrals the choir also gives concerts in the local area. Regular commitments include an Advent Carol Service, a Christmas Carol Service, and performances of Music and Readings for Lent and Passiontide. Future Cathedral and Abbey visits scheduled for 2025 include Worcester at Epiphany, Tewkesbury Abbey in February, and Ripon Cathedral in July.
