Ben Potter’s Sponsored Trike Ride

Ben Potter’s Sponsored Trike Ride

Saturday 19th September

Huge congratulations to Ben for completing his sponsored trike ride and raising over £1,800! Thank you to everyone who donated.

Ben Potter sings bass with Wells Cathedral Voluntary Choir besides serving as a guide and welcomer there. He plans a sponsored ride on his recumbent tricycle from Taunton to Wells – ‘from one Bishopric to the other’, as he puts it. He is a familiar sight around Wells as he uses his trike as his primary means of transport around the city. Indeed, so much is he a part of the cityscape that he has been pointed out to visitors as ‘a local eccentric’. The ride will take place on Saturday 19th September, leaving Taunton at 10.00. He expects to take some 6 hours to reach Wells Cathedral.

Ben and his wife have been in Wells for nearly 7 years: he fondly recalls the warmth of welcome shown them in the Cathedral in early days – a factor which led to him seeking to join the Voluntary Choir, then become a Welcomer and – on realising how interesting the Cathedral, its history and community is – applying to be selected for training as a Cathedral Guide. All of these activities have had to be suspended during the COVID Crisis, but Ben hopes that raising money for the Cathedral Bounce Back Appeal Fund will help bring about an early resumption of singing and guiding.

If you see him go by, either on the day, or at any other time, on his blue trike, wearing trademark Hi-Vis and sporting a flag, give him a wave!
