Many have been waiting for news on whether the Cathedral will offer Candlelight Concerts this year. Usually we seat 1,000 people per night but this year that will not be possible. We are not sure yet if we will be out of lockdown and able to host an audience at all, but assuming we can, there will be two different experiences offered this year:

The first experience will be a public performance of the concert will be offered on Thursday 10th December 2020 as an unashamed fundraiser for the Cathedral’s Bounce Back Appeal. Ticket prices will be higher than in previous years as we seek to raise £8,000 to replace a small portion of the income lost through the second lockdown.

Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis via Eventbrite and the ‘rule of six’ will apply. Bookings will open on Monday 30 November 2020 at 9.30am. Anyone who is unable to book seats electronically is asked to contact Emily Risdon on 01749 832207 or by email at marketing@wellscathedral.uk.net and assistance will be given. Tickets will be refundable if Covid-19 restrictions make an audience impossible.

The recording of the Candlelight Concert will be made available on the Cathedral’s website before Christmas, with a minimum donation of £5 to watch the Concert in the comfort of your own home. A trailer will be released so you can see what is offered before you donate. In this way, we hope to make the Concert available to as many of you as possible.

I hope you feel that we are offering the best we can in the circumstances.

As a consequence of the national lockdown all public worship, tours, concerts, and other events are suspended in Wells Cathedral until Wednesday 2nd December 2020 inclusive. The Café and Shop are closed, but the Cathedral remains open for individual prayer, lighting of candles and quiet reflection. All are welcome.
