Organ Meditations

Organ Meditations

A series of liturgical offerings each Tuesday evening from the 21st July

Wells Cathedral is hosting a series of liturgical offerings from 7.00-7.50pm on Tuesday Evenings during July and August. These will be devotional meditations and will have a different feel to the Cathedral’s regular organ recitals, with moments of prayer to frame the music. Much of the repertoire has been inspired by Christian faith and texts; there will be moments of power and majesty, as well as moments of repose and reflection.

For those unable to attend in person, a recording of each meditation will be available the following day on our audio webcasts page.

We are delighted to have a wonderful selection of organists playing in the coming weeks, all of whom are part of our Cathedral community:

21st July:

Jeremy Cole, Director of Music at Wells Cathedral will play a program of uplifting and awe-inspiring music by Howells, Tarik O’Regan, Fauré, Barnaby Martin and Messiaen.

28th July:

David Stevens Sub-Assistant Organist

4th August:

David Bednall formerly Assistant Organist

11th August:

James Gough  Acting Assistant Organist

18th August:

Barry Rose formerly of Guildford, St Paul’s and St Albans Cathedrals

25th August:

Matthew Redman organist of St John’s Church Glastonbury, and regular accompanist to Wells Cathedral Voluntary Choir

There will be a safely-distanced glass of wine served after each liturgical offering, and a chance to have some social time with each other and with the performers. Admission is free with a retiring collection, the proceeds of which will go towards the Cathedral’s Bounce Back Appeal. We look forward to seeing you there.
