This service of Choral Matins takes place in the Quire of Wells Cathedral is today sung by The Kingsbury Singers. Choral Evensong is held in the Quire of Wells Cathedral and today is sung by The Kingsbury Singers. Founded in 1992, the Kingsbury Singers is a sizeable choir of experienced musicians who deputise for Cathedral choirs, offering the full repertoire of Cathedral music from Lassus to Leighton. The singers, many of whom are professional musicians or music teachers, meet once or twice a year in a Cathedral or Abbey location to prepare services for a long weekend, usually Friday to Sunday. They enjoy visiting new venues, although several Cathedrals have invited them to return, which is an endorsement of their high musical standard. Ashley Marshfield has been Director of the group since 2018 having acted as Organist from 2007. He is also Director of Choral Studies and Director of Music elect from September 2019 at King's School, Bruton. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, winning the Harold Darke Prize for Organ Performance. This service is open to the public and all are welcome.
