Wells Cathedral Chorister Outreach Project

In January 2009, Wells Cathedral joined cathedrals and abbeys throughout the country with the launching of its acclaimed Chorister Outreach Project.

Funded by the government’s Sing Up scheme, the aim is to enhance music in schools which have little or no singing in their curriculum, as well as advising teachers on sustaining music in the long term.

Sing Up

Infant and Primary aged children from all over Somerset benefit from the project which delivers eight action-packed singing sessions to four schools each term. The term culminates with a fun-filled concert in Wells Cathedral alongside the Cathedral Choristers and Wells Cathedral Junior Choir, directed by charismatic Jill Edmonds (head of music at Wells Cathedral Junior School) and Matthew Owens (Organist and Master of the Choristers)

We are proud to have worked with children with a wide variety of needs, as well as giving a session to British children in the Mansergh Barracks, Gütersloh, North Germany. The school sessions are delivered by the Cathedral’s organists and Vicars Choral who are joined by cathedral choristers.
