At the heart of Wells Cathedral is the daily pattern of prayer and worship, the rhythm of which forms the framework of all that we do.
Well over 1000 services take place in the building every year and people from all around the world find it an inspiring space in which to worship. Services take place every day and range in style and length from very simple acts of worship to larger, more ceremonial occasions. These are open to all and if you are a first time visitor from this country, or from abroad, you are especially welcome.
In addition to its daily round of services the Cathedral celebrates major festivals and Saint’s Days and follows the church calendar beginning in November/December with Advent, followed by the times and seasons of Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost and Trinity.
Children’s Church meets during Sunday Eucharist in term time. We gather on the first two rows after the crossing (notices are placed on the row ends for easy identification). We then leave the Cathedral before the end of the first hymn and make our way down to the Education Room.
An opening prayer is followed by an activity in which we try to follow the Gospel reading for that Sunday. We return to the Cathedral in time for the children to go to the altar rail with their parents for a blessing.
Children from 4-12 are welcomed, younger children are also welcomed but should be accompanied by a parent. For more information, please contact Reception on 01749 674483.
