What is EMMAUS?

The name EMMAUS comes from a story in the Gospel of Luke. Following Jesus’ death, two disciples walked away from Jerusalem feeling confused, disappointed, and uncertain about what to believe. As they walked, a stranger joined them. Together they talked, questioned, listened, and shared a meal. Only as they broke bread together did they recognise that the stranger was the risen Christ. Their faith was not restored in a single moment. It grew as they journeyed. So it may be for us. Faith often grows not through certainty alone, but through conversation, companionship, hospitality, and the discovery that Christ has been walking beside us all along.

What EMMAUS Offers

EMMAUS offers space for that journey. Whether your faith is well established, uncertain, or you simply find yourself curious about God, you are warmly welcome. Together we create a place where people can:

  • listen and be heard
  • ask honest questions
  • reflect on life’s deeper meaning
  • discover new insights
  • encourage one another
  • explore what it means to follow Christ today

No one is expected to have all the answers. We simply walk together, trusting that God is already at work among us.

Nurture Resource with Wells Cathedral

EMMAUS Nurture is for anyone who wants to explore the Christian faith in a welcoming and relaxed environment. Over 15 sessions, we share hospitality, ask honest questions, reflect together, and discover what it means to follow Christ in everyday life.

Whether your faith is just beginning, you’re returning to church after time away, or you’re simply curious about Christianity, you are warmly welcome. No question is too big, too small, or too difficult. Like the first disciples on the road to Emmaus, we believe that faith grows as we journey together.
