Join us for the heart of the Christmas season at Wells Cathedral. Our beautiful Christmas services are a chance to gather in worship, reflection, and celebration, marking this sacred time together. From the candlelit beauty of our Advent services to the joy of Christmas Day, each service invites you to experience the season’s spirit in a profound way.

Cathedral Advent Carol Service

Sunday 30 November, 5.00 p.m.–6.15 p.m.
Congregation to be seated by 4.45 p.m.

Welcome the season of Advent with this very special service, which begins with the Cathedral in darkness. Immerse yourself in a powerful combination of music, readings, and liturgy as the Advent Procession moves through the Cathedral. Includes traditional congregational Advent Carols as well as wonderful music from Wells Cathedral Choir.

Cathedral Carol Services

Tuesday 23 December and Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December, 6.00 p.m.–7.15 p.m.
Congregation to be seated by 5.45 p.m.

Our annual popular Cathedral Carol Services have been named by Classic FM magazine as the ‘top choice’ in the South West. The Cathedral’s Great Choir will lead the music for the services, and there will be plenty of sing-along carols too! There is no entry charge and no tickets required, but please arrive early to secure your place! Doors open at 5.00 p.m.

Christmas Eve

Crib Services, 1.15 p.m.–1.50 p.m. and 2.30 p.m.–3.05 p.m.

Our Christmas Eve Crib Services are short, fun, 35-minute services for children, who are invited to attend dressed as a character from the Nativity. The Cathedral holds two of these services as they are so popular!

Eucharist of Christmas Night, 11.00 p.m. – 12.30 p.m.

The beautiful and atmospheric Eucharist of Christmas Night will be sung by Schola Cantorum, our group of professional sopranos, and the Vicars Choral of Wells Cathedral Choir.

Christmas Day

Holy Communion (Book of Common Prayer), 8.30a.m.–9.30 a.m.

Christmas Day Eucharist, 10.30 a.m.–12.00 noon

Celebrate Christmas Day at this sung service — a 10.30 a.m. Eucharist with the Cathedral’s Great Choir — after which celebratory Prosecco will be shared in the North Transept.

Said Evening Prayer, 3.00 p.m.–3.30 p.m.

The Christmas Day service of Said Evening Prayer will be held in the Vicars’ Close Chapel.
