The Girls’ Choir at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Warwick, was founded in 1990 by the then Director of Music, Simon Lole, and sings an upper-voices Choral Evensong each week, collaborating with the Gentlemen of the Choir for Sunday Eucharists and Evensongs throughout the church year, and as part of the combined full foundation choir at special events and major festivals. Open to girls aged between 7 and 18, choristers receive expert tuition in vocal technique, music theory, and sight-reading, enabling them to tackle a broad and challenging repertoire, as heard on frequent BBC radio and TV broadcasts alongside the Gentlemen of the Choir. The Girl Choristers’ annual performances of Britten’s Ceremony of Carols in December and Pergolesi’s Stabat mater during Holy Week have become staple events in the Warwick calendar, and the Gentlemen boast a hearty commitment to the Choir’s social life.
