The name Organic Abstract was used by the art critic, Martin Thurston, and I have used it ever since. My abstract paintings never have carefully drawn up plans. I start with a mark and a colour which dictate the next mark and so on. Very often, I turn the canvas so as to perfect the balance, and often it doesn't matter which way up the picture is hung. The shapes and movement I create stem from my constant observation of natural history, caves and mountains. I love discovering the weird and wonderful creatures in the sea, the fabulous things you can discover with the use oaf a high-powered lens, shapes created by dripping water in the form of stalactites, and the amazing colours and shapes to be found in the study of rock, fossils, crystals and landscapes.
