Programmed Days

Programmed Days

The Education Room has been specially designed to accommodate school groups. Its secure access provides a contained space (complete with toilets and bag storage) that serves as a great base from which to explore the cathedral as part of a programmed day.

Take a Look

The Nursery, Reception, and Year 1 classes of Springmead School and Nursery had an unforgettable day at Wells Cathedral, exploring the awe-inspiring beauty of Luke Jerram’s Gaia installation. Surrounded by the stunning imagery of our planet, the young students were captivated by the scale and detail of the Cathedarl, creating a day full of wonder, discovery, and joy. Watch as they marvel at the incredible sights of the Cathedral, igniting their curiosity and sparking their imaginations.

A typical day includes:

A guided tour tailored to your topic by highly trained cathedral volunteers.

A themed activity working in groups:

  • Watch the clock with jousting knights and Quarter Jack with an opportunity to read a prayer
  • Picnic lunch in the Camery Garden or Education Suite (if wet)
  • Explore and draw around the Cathedral
  • An individual craft activity creating a souvenir to take home
  • Guided reflection

The day closes with a time of reflection. This may be a guided stilling activity with music, or the class may end the day with a favourite song, and then proudly state that they have sung in Wells Cathedral Quire!

  • Clay – make individual clay bosses to take home (KS 1&2);
