Verity Standen creates unique and surprising music for human voices.

A highly skilled ensemble of 11 singers brings to life a new collection of songs that veer from fierce to fragile, enveloping the audience in the power and poignancy of unaccompanied singing.

Verity’s new compositions draw influences from multiple genres, from folk to contemporary classical, and the singers bring skills from a range of different musical styles. Featuring rich harmony and playful improvisation, the community of singers meet the challenge of these songs afresh each night – a deeply human, intrinsically live experience.

The Lady Chapel at Wells Cathedral is the extraordinary location for this special concert, with its beautiful sound and 14th Century stained-glass backdrop.

Verity is an artist in residence at Wells Cathedral in 2026. She has been leading workshops with community choirs around the region and creating bespoke music. Now audiences have a chance to experience Verity’s brand new performance as part of its premiere weekend ahead of a national tour.

Expect moments of beautiful intimacy and of forceful challenge, woven into a concert with a difference.
