A world-class festival of classical music in England’s smallest city, celebrating the talents of Wells Cathedral’s many musicians.
06–10 May 2026

Welcome to the Sound of Wells Festival 2026! Over the course of five inspiring days, we invite you to celebrate the rich and vibrant musical life of Wells Cathedral.
Throughout the festival, you’ll hear performances from the Cathedral’s choirs and musicians, as well as our many associated ensembles who help keep music at the heart of this special place all year round.
This year, we shine a particular spotlight on our historic Grand Organ, which is currently undergoing a major, once‑in‑a‑generation restoration. Several events in the programme will help support this vital project, including a screening of Buster Keaton’s 1926 classic silent film The General with live organ accompaniment by Dr David Bednall (6 May), and a landmark performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 (7 May).
With performances, services, and special events taking place throughout the week, we warmly invite you to explore and enjoy the breadth, depth, and creativity of music at Wells Cathedral.
