Choral Scholarships at Wells Cathedral

The Cathedral is delighted to be able to offer opportunities for young singers at the start of their careers to sing with the internationally-renowned Wells Cathedral Choir as a member of the professional ‘back row’, comprising nine Vicars Choral and three Choral Scholars (alto, tenor, and bass).

Choral Scholarships are suitable for young musicians pre or post-university, and usually last for one year. During this time, the Scholars sing in the Cathedral’s regular services, as well as in concerts, recordings, and broadcasts. There are also opportunities to become further involved with the wider life of the Cathedral and Wells at large.

The Scholars share accomodation on the beautiful medieval Vicars’ Close, and  enjoy a generous fees package alongside the scholarship.

Choral Scholarships follow the academic year, running from September to July. Vacancies for the posts can be found on the Cathedral’s Vacancies page, usually in the autumn of the academic year prior.
