Yes! People can get married at the Cathedral, although there are a few simple rules.
Cathedrals in England are what’s known as extra-parochial (‘outside the parish’), which means they don’t automatically serve a local congregation in the same way as your local church. Everyone in England has a parish church where they have a legal right to marry, but to marry in the Cathedral you need a qualifying connection, such as:
There are also a number of requirements to ensure the marriage complies with both UK civil and Canon (Church) law.
If none of these apply, you may still be able to marry here by obtaining an Archbishop’s Special Licence, which usually requires a worshipping and spiritual connection with the Cathedral. After your initial enquiry form, we can reserve your wedding date for two weeks while you make arrangements. A non‑refundable deposit (£500 non‑exclusive use / £1,000 exclusive use) secures your booking, with 50% due three months in advance and the remainder one month before your wedding.
Any additional costs are settled afterwards, helping you spread payments comfortably.
