VACANCY FOR CAFÉ SUPERVISOR

Wells Cathedral is looking for a Supervisor for its Catering Department on a permanent basis.

24.5 hours per week on average over a 4 weekly working pattern, (Wk1 Mon, Thur, Fri. Wk2 Mon, Fri, Sat, Sun. Wk3 Mon, Wed, Thur. Wk4 Wed, Thur, Sat, Sun). £9.84 per hour.

You will ensure the smooth running of the day to day operation of the Cathedral Café, be able to supervise and train staff.  The Supervisor is responsible for all staff using the till and credit cards, the float at beginning of service and cashing up at the end of the day.  To ensure all food and drink stored in the Café are within date and rotated. Communicating with suppliers, customers and visitors in person and over the telephone.

VACANCY FOR CAFÉ GENERAL ASSISTANT – Temporary (Maternity cover)

Wells Cathedral is looking for a General Assistant to work in the Cathedral Café/Kitchen support on a temporary basis from 23 January 2020 until January 2021.

19 hours per week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday). £9 per hour.

You will ensure all customers are made to feel welcome when visiting the Cathedral Café, carry out all tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the service area, undertake tasks associated with the handling of food, operate the till when directed and carry out other duties as may be necessary for this post.

Volunteer Chaplains

Our Duty Chaplains, Licenced Readers and Ordained members of the Clergy, are available to visitors for pastoral counselling or conversation. They conduct short prayers at the clock on the hour and, if ordained, celebrate Holy Communion at 12.25pm on Tuesdays.

We are looking for a number of Chaplains, on a rota basis, from 11am-3.30pm during the Winter and 11am-4pm throughout the Summer period. If you would like to join the Wells Cathedral Volunteer Team, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Volunteer Library Assistant

We’re looking for volunteer Library Assistants to supervise the use of the Cathedral’s Reading Room as a reference and study library and talk to visitors about its history and contents. We’re looking for people who can commit to two hour shifts from 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm, Monday to Saturday and ideally for people who enjoy engaging with members of the public.

Skills required

  • Excellent communication
  • Able to follow instruction
  • Happy to work in a team

Volunteer Cathedral Welcomers and Duty Welcomers

We are currently recruiting for the roles of Cathedral Welcomer and Duty Welcomer. These are both voluntary roles.

Welcomers provide a warm, friendly and sensitive welcome to all who enter Wells Cathedral.  The role can include handing over an appropriate welcome leaflet, notifying visitors of guided tours and generally helping with directions.

The ideal volunteer is someone who is friendly, enjoys engaging with the public and has the ability to follow instruction, as well as being able to be flexible.
