New Diocesan Outreach Scheme to Connect Communities

25 October 2024

Wells Cathedral is excited to announce the launch of its new Diocesan Outreach initiative, designed to engage and serve people, churches, and communities across the diocese and beyond. Rooted in the transforming love of God, this scheme aims uphold the Cathedral’s vision to be a beacon of light and hope, offering a variety of opportunities for involvement.

The outreach program includes a range of engaging activities and resources tailored for local parishes and community groups. Highlights include:

Sunday Hospitality: Parishes are invited for a special ‘away day’ at Wells Cathedral, featuring reserved seating for the 10.30 a.m. Eucharist, opportunities for parish participation, guided tours, and a chance to meet with Cathedral clergy. The day culminates in attendance at Choral Evensong, creating a meaningful conclusion to a day of worship and fellowship.

Diocesan Choral Festival: Each year, parish church choirs of all backgrounds are welcomed to participate in a day of music and community at the Cathedral. The festival includes combined rehearsals, exploration of the Cathedral, and a grand performance during Choral Evensong.

Liturgical and Musical Exchange: This initiative invites clergy and choirs from across the Diocese to engage in meaningful exchanges. Whether attending services at the Cathedral or inviting Cathedral clergy and musicians to local parishes, these exchanges aim to foster deeper connections and shared ministry.

Special Interest Groups: The Cathedral provides unique opportunities for various interest groups, including bell ringing, embroidery support, and flower arranging. Future gardening initiatives will also invite parishioners to collaborate in creating a vibrant herb garden at the Cathedral.

Parish Pass: Residents on their parish church’s electoral roll in the Diocese of Bath and Wells can apply for a Parish Pass, granting day admission to the Cathedral and exclusive discounts on tours and events.

Catering and Venue Hire: Wells Cathedral offers its stunning and varied venues for community celebrations and fundraising events, alongside a competitive catering service using local produce.

Library Resources and Study Space: The Cathedral’s library provides a tranquil space for study, with access to historic and contemporary resources, including research appointments in the historic Chained Library.

Discounted Supplies and Retail Offers: Parishes seeking hymnals, Bibles, and study materials can benefit from competitive prices and discounts available through the Cathedral Shop.
