The Cathedral bade a very warm, Wellensian welcome to its new Precentor, The Reverend Canon Timothy (Tim) Stevens, at Choral Evensong on Sunday 23 June 2024.
Tim was Vicar of the United Benefice of Darton and Staincross with Mapplewell in the Diocese of Leeds and Area Dean of Barnsley. He brings a wealth of gifting, interests and experience to Wells at the start of his ministry here.
The Cathedral Choir lent a triumphant tone to proceedings with well-loved choral works by Sheppard, Wood, and Parry, specially chosen by Tim for the occasion.
The Rt Revd Bishop Michael, Bishop of Bath and Wells, gave the address towards the end of the service, and highlighted that the Canon Precentor—the priest responsible for the liturgical life of the Cathedral—should help in bring us closer to God through worship; through words and music, and also by helping us to challenge ourselves spiritually.
