A Highlights Tour is the the perfect introduction to the story of Wells Cathedral, told through its most notable features.
Each tour follows a roughly pre-determined route, encompassing the Nave, Quire, and Lady Chapel, and finishing at the Clock in time to see it chime on the hour.
Our knowledgeable and friendly guides add their own insights along the way, and will shape the tour to fit you. No two tours are ever the same!
Highlights Tours are FREE with admission to the Cathedral, and generally operate Monday to Saturday on the hour from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. (inclusive). No booking is required—simply gather by the ‘bus stop’ sign in the Nave before the tour is scheduled to begin.
From time to time, the Cathedral has services, events, and functions that prevent tours and restrict access to parts of the building. If you would like more information about tours operating during your visit, please look at our Closures and Restrictions page for any last minute changes prior to your visit as some events may be arranged at short notice.
