Setting the Sails of a Cathedral Strategy

Setting the Sails of a Cathedral Strategy

30 September 2024

Last week, Chapter had an away day to review the draft Strategic Plan for Wells Cathedral.

The plan has been drawn up over the last couple of months reflecting all of the consultation work done to date with staff, congregation and volunteers, as well as more recent conversations across the organisation highlighting where people see challenges, opportunities and aspirations. The valuable research work and consultation we’ve done for Vicars’ close project has also fed into the plan.

Over the coming weeks we will share the draft plan to consult further, to ensure that we have a plan that will give us a long term framework over the next 10 years, to set our direction and provide a road map setting out where we want to be and what we want to do to get there.

It is a road map, a guide, setting out a template for the broad approaches we will take to reach the destination we want to get to. The strategic plan will help us to inform decision making about resource and investment allocation, with targets and outcomes, and sets out how we will measure our progress towards these with a broad approach.

We look forward to those conversations and to hearing people’s views, and we are very grateful for all of the contributions to date.
